Here ‘Tis
The footage from the festa dei ceri is in. It is more telling than any descriptions I could give. Unfortunately, I don’t have any good footage of the raising of the ceri in the Piazza Grande, which was due to a really irritating woman crushed in next to me who insisted on jabbing her elbows in everyone’s back. There was a lot of unfriendliness during the raising because we were kind of in the “participants” section (and by participants I just mean people that were dressed in the traditional garb). And I qualify “unfriendliness” with having heard at least one “turisti di merda” (literally, ‘tourists of shit’). But that was the only inconvenience. As you can see, the rest was a sheer delight.
And, in related news, we finally got the Piaggio Si (a wonderful little scooter) running. Good times all around.
