So, Final Class, Kind of
Just had my final lecture in History of Africa and it was lovely. The past two days we were given the rare treat of having a lecturer in English—from Switzerland. His accent was delightful, however; rather than incomprehensible or too funny to pay attention to. And it just so happens that the lecture was on South Africa. So, I figure that I probably know about as much as Erica does after she has spent about a semester there so far. (In other news, she just finished her rural hospital, living in a trailer-home part of her stay there—or almost.)
And, well, that class wasn’t really the last possible one that I could go to, but I think that it’ll do just fine for a final. Contemporary History is just too horribly boring for me to attend. And I just ran into another American from the class who said that they are going—but they had part of a puffed rice cracker on their lip, so I’m taking that as a sign of faulty judgment in general.
Still grappling with Ledesma Ramos and wild Fascism. Exam has been confirmed for the 14th of May at 11. So, what that means is that I’ll be cramming for the exam until then, trying to head to Gubbio immediately after, and then cramming for my literature exam on the 20th right after that. Maybe I should move it to the 21st. I think I’ll do that. Savage.
In other news, the headline of the free newspaper called, “City” here is, “More than two million foreigners in Italy; fear and intolerance grow.” Figures read that foreigners now make up 5% of the total population (gasp), however 88% of those reside in the Central/Northern region, with a million of them being “clandestini,” or aliens. Intolerance grows!
